I seem to have stated my case badly, here is a edit-
re: re: Strikes
GJ jy verstaan my verkeerd! I am not angry at the letter, I appreciate
the school telling me that they fear for our children's safety, I too
would prefer to keep them home than receive a call telling me my child
is injured/dead! I just feel that the strikers that are doing the
threatening are not worthy to be called teachers and not worthy of our
trust. I think that my son's school had a suspicion tht this strike
would take so long as they did their exams before the strike started. I
have sympathy with those that want to work and with the genuine
grievances but I do NOT have sympathy with the threats and violence,
especially where it involves children.
My son came home from school yesterday with this letter. He also told us how the school held a drill and the kids were told what to do if there were shots fired!! I am so angry, these striking masses are people that we normally entrust our children to or our selves and our loved ones (Nurses/hospital workers etc) I sincerely understand their grievances, I do.....BUT - how on earth are we supposed to feel when a school sends out a letter like this, telling us in a round-about fashion that we should keep our kids at home as things could get out of hand. The teachers at this school are not on strike and there has been no problems there but the school is close to the Gov hospital and obviously they are concerned about spill-over. These same teachers that are threatening children all over the country were holding their futures in their hands not 3 weeks ago, teaching, them, preparing them for the big bad world and now they are the big bad world. Trust your children with us they say - yeah right!! Where will it end??

Dear parents
Industrial Action
The safety of your child/ren is of utmost
concern to us!
As a result of the
Industrial Action and the uncertainty of what may occur in the next few days,
the safety of your child is of utmost
concern to us. Therefore if any parent or guardian feel the need to keep their child
at home for whatever reason, they may do so.
Furthermore we may not
give permission for your child to stay away at this point in time. **** Primary will however be open tomorrow
and normal school will take place if no major incident occurs.
We will however do our best to ensure the
safety of those children who do attend school. We would also like parents to listen/watch
the news as there is no definite indication as to the outcome of the
negotiations.
We as **** Primary
Staff have the belief and faith that all will go well.
Do not fear – Trust in
God!
Thank you for your
co-operation
Sincerely
Principal
